Jefferson County Board of Education Aims To Hire A New Superintendent By Early June
Jefferson County Schools (JCS) is on a tight schedule to pick a new superintendent following the unexpected announcement in February by current Superintendent Bondi Shay Gibson-Learn that she would be resigning from the position at the end of June. The deadline for candidates to submit applications for the position is April 20 and the Board of Education will conduct interviews in May (these interviews will likely be held in executive session to ensure the confidentiality of the candidates).
Opportunities For Public Input
The Board of Education has scheduled seven public input sessions, all of which will be condicted via a web-based video conference and moderated by the search firm hired by the Board, McPherson & Jacobson (the school board members and current superintendent will not be present at any of these meetings). All of these sessions are scheduled for this week and each has a specific group focus:
For Community Members
- March 21 (Tue) — Noon (Zoom link)

For JCS Service Personnel
- March 23 (Thur) — 9:30 am (Zoom link)
- March 23 (Thur) — 2:30 pm (Zoom link)
For JCS Professional Staff

For Families With Children Currently Attending JCS
- March 23 (Thur) — 6:00 pm (Zoom link)
The schedule indicates a public input sesson for JCS Administrators, but the time has not yet been set. JCS students will also be invited to participate in these sessions (schedules to be coordinated by the search firm and school staff).
Jefferson County Schools is also inviting public comment via a survey. The survey is open through March 26 (Sunday):
