What specific experience and expertise do you have that is relevant to performing the role of County Clerk?
I have served as Jefferson County Clerk for the past six years and would like to continue in this position for another term. I have helped to streamline tasks and duties of the offices under the supervision of the County Clerk, making them more efficient and transparent. I also applied for and received $33,000 in state grants for the county. These grants have been applied to historical document preservation. My office has successfully administered six elections. I worked with the County Commission and the State Auditor’s office to get our county on wvcheckbook.gov. This program brings transparency to government spending, which is something I strongly support.
What are the most important issues you expect the County Clerk’s office will need to address in the next few years?
As Jefferson County Continues to grow, so will the responsibilities and workload of the Clerk’s office. Handling our increased workload and maintaining a high standard of customer service and professionalism within our budget constraints will be one of the biggest challenges for the office moving forward.
What are your priorities for how the County Clerk’s office operates?
I am proud of the way the Clerk’s office currently operates. We consistently maintain a high standard of customer service, professionalism, and transparency. However, there is always room for improvement, and I hope that I can continue to improve the day-to-day operations of the office in my second term.
Why should voters vote for you?
I firmly believe that elected officials should serve the people and I strive to provide the residents of Jefferson County with the best service possible. During my first term in office, I have been able to meet and exceed the expectations of residents and colleagues while delivering outstanding customer service. I have been an effective and efficient county clerk and have worked to preserve and maintain public records, and ensure secure, fair, and accurate elections. As Clerk’s my office respects everyone, acts with integrity, embraces diversity, builds relationships, is accountable and learns through innovation.
During my first term in office, I have successfully performed the roles, duties and responsibilities of the County Clerk. I serve in a non-partisan manner, never letting my personal political beliefs interfere with what is best for Jefferson County. Many roles of the clerk are set by statute, and I will always follow the law; however, if someone comes to me with a way to run the office consistent with code that may make it more efficient, provide better service, and reduce costs to taxpayers, I will always consider differing views in that regard.
