According to documents published on the PJM Interconnection website in October 2023, the regional electric grid operator is recommending a project that would construct a new 500 kV transmission line through Jefferson County by 2027. The new line would be built alongside the existing 500 kV line that runs from Summit Point to Millville and across the Blue Ridge into Virginia (see graphic).
The PJM Interconnection Management Board will be meeting on December 11 to review this proposal. If PJM approves this proposal, the next step will include review by the West Virginia Public Services Commission.
