Jefferson Security Bank (105 E. Washington St., Shepherdstown, WV) grew its roots in the community shortly after the Civil War.
“Our bank, originally called Jefferson Savings Bank, became the first bank to operate in Shepherdstown, on May 19, 1869,” explained Director of Marketing and Community Relations Sara Wasson. “With a handful of clients and a vision to restore the community, this young bank built trust and supported the local citizens through their reconstruction efforts.”
With gradual population growth, JSB has since expanded its presence in the area, building additional locations in Martinsburg, Inwood, Charles Town, and Sharpsburg (MD).
“Our steady growth has provided us the opportunity to focus on improving the lives of those that work for us, improving the efficiency of the services we offer, and fully enhancing the community and its members to the best of our ability,” Wasson continued.
JSB takes pride in its roots and long history of being a symbol of stability and security within the community, and next year, the bank will celebrate its 150-year anniversary.
The bank offers services such as deposit accounts (checking and savings), online and mobile banking, and loans (personal, mortgage & construction, commercial, and credit cards).
“We’ve always focused on ensuring that our product offerings are easy for our customers to understand,” Wasson maintained. “We do not want to offer products that are complex, difficult, or confusing in any way. It’s important for us to focus on providing products that are geared to the specific demographics within our communities and meet our diverse customers’ needs.”
CEO Cindy Kitner added that because JSB is a community bank, they make their decisions locally, saving their customers time. “We are proud to be a part of this unique area in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and Washington County, Maryland. We care about our customers and we care about our communities. For us, it is about finding opportunities to make a difference by serving them.”
